Seems a shiiiiiite comparision to me tbh.

A Verys(sp?), Bandit, Divvy would be a better comparision.

I think it's meant to be less of a head-to-head competition than here's a handful of cheap(ish) bikes worth considering. It might have been last, but I was happy to see they thought it worth including in that group.

£5k? So there's a cheap SV with full suspension and brake upgrades and tuned up to 85bhp. Comparing standard is hardly fair.

Haha, so comparing bikes seems to just be "what is around that is roughly the same cc?". in that case, they can go and compare my Ford Ka 1.3 with a xjr 1300

I read the article and thought the SV came out very well. Sure in terms of outright performance it's not in the same league as the other bikes but I don't think that was the point of the article. It was about cheap thrills and I got the impression they sorted bikes into groups defined by their performance envelope/style and then picked one for each group.
Representing the big twin bikes was the RSV,
Big sports bikes the GSXR1000
Middle sports bikes the GSXR750
Little sports bikes the CBR600
And bringing up the rear and representing the budget all rounders the good old SV650.
Instead of thinking of the test as the SV against the others think of it as an article about different types of bikes. If you were a relatively inexperienced rider and were thinking of getting a bigger bike would that article have helped you decide what to spend your budget on...? I suspect quite a few might have decided to hang onto their SV!
