I completley agree. My idea is not to become a one stop shop and design and write all of this (I have NO desire whatsoever to change career path at the end of this and become a programmer) but to get a little technical knowledge behind me and maybe write a very simple programme or two which are nothing to do with work so that I can have a basic understanding of what is possible.

Based on getting that basic understanding I'd be in a better position to ask the correct questions to a professional if/when it comes around to properly looking into this and speccing requirements.

Ahh, in that case then! My two-pence worth!

Step back for a moment. You want an app that a user can use off site, for exmaple, using an Android mobile phone.

Now, knowing the NHS procurement process, there is likely to be more than one type og gadget that different professionals are using. do you want to be tied to one specific platform? Probably not, so don't jump onto the java app bandwagon just yet!

I would be mroe inclined to create a Lite-web app specifically for mobile phones and pdas.

Have a look here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?...ations&x=0&y=0

and then pop down your local waterstones and browse some books to get a feel for the different languages and best practice out there!

I worked in an IT function within the NHS and had to develope a few apps for our primary care teams - I have a few ideas how I would do it, but then it's not me who's gonig to do this so I'm not going to colour your viewpoint.

Anyways, just my introductory 2-penneth worth so feel free to ignore!
