Last bullfinch I saw was about 15 years ago, murdered by the late jenny-wenny (a lovely tortoiseshell cat I had). One of the best looking of British birds, tho seemingly quite uncommon.
Lucky you peter. We do get a lot of red kites around here - much better than any buzard! ![]() |

Good morning all.
Sadly a lot of the indigenous species of British Birds are in decline. In London one hardly ever sees Sparrows & Starlings anymore, apparently Sparrow numbers are down by a shocking 70% since the seventies. One sees a lot of the larger birds nowadays. Such as, Magpies, Crows, & of course Pigeons. We also have large numbers of Ring Necked Parakeets in West London & Surrey. People seem to like the Noisy screeching aggressive blighters. Me, I'd rather see our indigenous feathered friends, rather than some import! 'Now where's my shotgun'! We have a couple of workshop Robins, who come in & raid the bin, even while we're working. One even settled on the handlebars of the bike I was working on, he was looking at me as if to say; 'You'll need a 24mm spanner for that splindle old chap' ![]() Needless to say, they now get a plentiful supply of seed, suet blocks, & mealworms. They've since been joined by a solitary Sparrow on occasion, & a couple of Wagtails. Cheers. |
