Good morning all.
If it's been lowered by the fitment of shorter 'dogbones' it's a pretty cheap excercise to re-fit some standard ones. It may have been lowered by the fitment of a shorter shock absorber, in which case it'll need a replacement shock, of standard length. Cheers. |

The SV is still a popular bike for learners and experienced riders alike. So it will always have a buoyant market and a bottom price below which a working and MOT'ed one wont fall.
EBay has literally thousands of 2nd hand parts for SVs on there. You'll soon sort it out. Most SVs of that age are going to be scruffy. They aren't known for having a great finish anyway. Things like fork legs are notorious for chipping away and rust showing on most thinly painted parts. Now its 11 years old it’s definitely going to be showing signs of this. If me were thee I'd have a test ride. If the engine starts and sounds okay, you're half way there. If it changes gear okay up and down the box you're almost there. If it stops okay (I’d be surprised) then you're pretty much done. Buy it and enjoy fettling it and getting it up to scratch. Cracking bikes really and well worth putting a bit of time into. ![]() |

OK everyone - I bought it for £800. The owner had just spent £145 getting it MOT'd. It needed the brakes stripping and cleanin, new plugs and new HT leads. Now running well.
Will post a pic when there's daylight to take one! It needs the fork seals doing soon. Is there a 'how to' guide anywhere? |

Well, striped and cleaned brakes is one chore you dont have to do, so thats great
![]() ![]() If it where me, I would change the oil and oil filter (use 10w 40 semi synthetic and make it a good brand) aswell. That way, you have essentially done a medium service (oil oil filter and plugs) and you can change the oil+filter in 4000 miles and then in 8000 miles another oil+filter and two more spark plugs ![]() Oh, and see about getting the carbs balanced too for smooooooth running...maybe it'll be best to get the choke plungers and choke cable lubricated and greased aswell before it actualy gives any problems...prevention is better than cure ![]() congratulations with your purchase btw ![]() |

Ta. Have done oil/filter today. Will take your other tips in hand too. Used it for a quick jaunt in to town with Mrs P on the back. She likes it too!
