Yeah mine asked as well, as long as its not performance enhancing its ok, but they will only replace standard items.

Phone them, in fact phone a couple. Get quotes from insurance companies with good and bad reputations, the ones with the bad reputation will undoubtedly be cheaper, and then phone the more reputable insurance company and tell them the best figure you have been quoted and they will more than likely match it. My insurer wanted £230 on renewal, I got it down to £150 and with a much better insurer. I told them all the mods that I had done and for my no claims bonus to be protected cost less than a pound extra.
