There are a few orgers in the Preston area

DavePreston of course
ElmerFud
Irksys
dsgmatt

and a few others who I cannot remember .
Don't believe the hype. davePreston is only a legend to those who drink southern shandy. He being Irish does not drink real beer and sticks to weak larger, you therefore assume he is drink loads. No he is drinking loud.

He is a wimp I tell you.

Sending him a PM and tell him to get the beer in.

I shall have to make the effort to get out to the local meets more, as for RC cars - thats sure a blast from the past.

I used to do some competative stuff when i was much younger, even collected a few trophies! having just looked online at what the stuff costs these days, ouch!

Get out to your local meets, also go to AR10. You'll meet loads of people there. they might all be strangers at the start of the weekend, by the end of the weekend they wont be anymore.

What can you say - seems like most people on here have a second expensive hobby in addition to their biking. I've seen RC cars/helicopters, off-road driving/riding and cycling threads, and there seems to be a fair few ladies in the burlesque threads that turn up as well. Keeps us busy during the winter, I guess

I have noticed while reading the forums this seems to be the case, for me biking is the hobby! cant really afford another as im saving up to have a load of building work done at home, want a nice new (large) garage with workshop and to enclose off the back garden, the other half is talking about kids next year so need a safe place they can play.

Have a look here to see what clubs are close to you - http://www.centralbooking.org/cbs/in...ubs&Itemid=151

I race a Tamiya Mini - you could easily be up and running in that class for less than £100 - I know the sort of clubs you are talking about and I stay away from them as its all "how big is your wallet racing" - Minis are great as the rules are designed to keep costs low but the fun factor is huge - the class is hugely popular and I bet there is something near to you - give it a go

I must admit to feeling rather jelous when i see groups of mates just having fun together, does anyone have any good advice on how to make friends or meet like minded people? no matter how hard i try i never seem to manage it.

Cheers
If it makes you feel any better remember this. The less firends you have, the less people you have to share your lottery win with Seriously, im with ya buddy. Im very choosy over friends, and the ones i do have i class as close friends. Somtimes though this makes of a dull life.

Hiya Avenger,

I know where you're coming from mate. Me and my ex moved to York in april 2008, neither of us knew anyone, I'm self employed so no way of making friends at work, all the friends she made turned out to be nutters or never really had time for her, quite a rubbish situation to be in..

I started to make more friends through biking (mainly on here), kitcar, going to the gym (me and yorkie jones from on here go as often as we can) etc...

The main thing I struggled with, is that I'm quite an outgoing person. I love to have a laugh, take the pish out of myself, meet new people, get drunk, have bbq's, have people round, go into town, be spontaneous and go for drives into the country, odd weekend away here and there..

The ex on the other hand was quite miserable and just expected a life to unravel for her. No matter how many times I told her she had to get out there and keep trying, she would always turn it back on me and make me feel guilty for her loneliness.. She didn't like people being in the house, she didn't like anyone making mess, always slept in til about 2pm on weekends, nothing spontaneous...

It got to the point where I had to tell her "look I know you're gonna be lonely tonight but if I want to avoid going insane, I'm gonna have to leave you to it and go do my own thing with my mates.. I'll be back at about 4am"... this started to happen more and more till we broke up about a month ago - I can safely say that in the last 4 weeks I have made more friends and been more happy than I have in 3 years. Another lad I know from the gym invited me out for his 21st birthday a few weeks ago - been going out with him & all his mates ever since.

Now I'm not suggesting that you're missus is the root of your problems by any means, but it's worth bearing in mind that if you're both in a similar situation you really have to encourage each other to go out there and get stuck into life. It might seem difficult but maybe try doing stuff together? Or if one of you makes a couple of friends who are also in relationships, go out to the pub with them or into town... anything really.

If a situation presents itself to do something new, even if you don't really fancy it or you're not sure, just say yes do it without a second thought

hope some of this helps mate
