Just as a side note, I've spoke to GG about this on the phone. The law states that you must either report the damage to the owner, ie Dave in this case or report it to Police as soon as reasonably practicable and in any case, within 24 hours. So it's NOT a case of, oh well, it's ok, I have 24 hours. You must have a reasonable excuse for not reporting it immediately - IE, my head was hanging off and I needed to go to the hospital.

Agreed.

Common courtesy would dictate that since he KNOWS who owns the car he hit - and it was right outside their house - he should tell them straight away. Unless he thought they were out or in bed.

He was straight off, I was next to the window when I heard the crunch and beep so in literally less than two seconds after the incident I was looking at the car as it drove off..

Little barsteward, that could have been one of my cars, or worse still could have been Chery walking the dogs over the road. Saw our next door neighbour this morning, he said the police fella went to see 'Little Welsh fella', as we call him, whose car I watched drive away and he said he's not been near the car all night..

Someone bloody had, I saw the fresh damage to his car myself...

now i know whats been said here about possibilities of drinking etc.... but lets give the guy the benefit of the doubt, what time of night was it? seeing he lives 150yards away, maybe it was late, so knew there was no point going waking people up late on a sunday and was going to go down today to explain details etc... this morning?

I agree mate, not trying to start a witch hunt but it was only 21:30, and he knows that people would be awake, we've seen him enough at the local pub on Sunday nights (quiz night), lights on and curtains open at the all of the first four houses where the car was.

As Grunty said, he's notorious for crap driving, and I'm not even referring to using the phone, I mean cutting right across the corner on his way in to/out of our street (and it's a BIIG corner with plenty of room even when all the cars are parked) and he's often on the wrong side of the road at the junction.

This is our junction, badminton Road/Church Lane, this happened coming from Badminton Land ONTO Church lane. PLENTY of room no matter which direction you turn of from Badminton Road. So much so that it is not uncommon for truck to turn around in it

And can the police not use your witness statement, and match the damage on the two cars and issue the guy with an NIP so he has to say who was driving? They only need to suspect him in order to breathalyse him, once they have an alcohol reading they don't have to charge him until they can either prove or get him to admit that he was driving.

I'm going to court for Driving without Due Care next week, based upon the strength of two witness statements which are both complete b0llocks and contradict each other entirely! One written by a school crossing patrol that doesn't want to loose his job for negligence, and another fabricated after the event by and angry parent who clearly didn't even see what happened! And there was no accident and no damage, just good observations and quick emergency stop on my part.

Don't tell me the police don't have enough evidence. Can't be bothered more like!

Sorry policemen and women on here, but I'm seriously starting to view your profession with some disdain. I've never been anti-police in my life, but my experiences are rapidly changing that!

I'm going to court for the school crossing patrol incident and people are getting away with accidents like this, quite likely whilst drunk driving? WTF is going on in this country?!?!

Pointless if he's not in the car - he could have arrived home and immediately started boozing.

Still - hope his insurance coughs up.
