When any of our current or previous PMs thank god or state publicly that they are Christian nobody bats an eyelid.

Food for thought.

I guess by clarification most christians are supposed to be very tolerant and forgiving. Therefore don't need all the special treatment that other religions tend to force upon us accusing us of not being politcally correct if we dont let them wear their turbans in schools or (the one that always scares me) on motorbikes.

My opinion is all the flak comes from the attention to trivial issues that an individual chooses cause by having their own beliefs and forcing their customs to impose on other people. Whereas christians require no special uniform or rules, sure they may try to brainwash children with bible clubs or things of that nature but in the respect of a politician they wont go around making rules like they require to not have coursework on the weekend because it is for rest as declared by the lord.

p.s. i am aware i have very shallow views but i only discuss things i dont vote because i acknowledge i dont know the first thing about politics.

For all those who question the power of the muslim community, try living within spitting distance of Dewsbury. I respect their community spirit because it puts ours to shame, just look at the gg thread about what happened on her street last night. That just wouldnt be allowed to happen in a muslim area. What I dont agree with is how they enforce thier belief and how they refuse brittish custom to the point where we have to loose part of our national identity. But that in its self is our fault not me an you directly but the gonvernments and councils which we elect.

Something worth sharing is something a friend serving in Afghan recently told me, something really eye opening that a gerka told him regarding the mental strength which muslims have not word for word but it was something like. "we're tought that in death everything is over and its a resting place after the labour of life, for muslims they are taught that after life comes a new beggining and they belive it as much as we belive night follows day"
Apparently this gerka wasnt even stoned, but he did have the nic-name yoda lol. I liked it because it shows that we have our weakness because of our fear but they have thier stength because of thier belief.

For the modern british athiests we might not have a god or a final resting place to belief in but you could always try (for desperate want of a better phrase) to be more cristian with our naighbours and that can only make it a better place to live.

Can whole heartedly agree on the first point Matt, I've had several personal experiences of the muslim community spirit, and how their friends and loved ones are always helped out, and also made felt welcome.

As for the second point you highlight. On more than one occasion I have been told by muslims that when it is your time, its your time. It doesn't matter what the circumstance, wether it be a natural cause or something else, its your time. They are taught this from very young, like you say they believe there is a resting place after life.
I was taken aback being told this at a muslim funeral I went to. Reason being was because it was the daughter of my workfriend, whose funeral it was. She was so calm and seemed not upset, and spoke with great sincerity, to which I had great respect and admiration for what she told me.

Life is a trial for this, and how you conduct your life is how your life will be after, but better (0r worse) in this case not much different from Christian.
At the end of the day, IMO, we are all from the same pot, religion at one time was all the same, just somewhere it got seperated and everyone got a different set of pages from the same book, inbetween some got lost, and thats where half the argument starts.
