Take a leaf out of my book (or ledger if you like). Move out of mainstream finance into project management or corporate governance. Far more interesting. Although I image you get to see some interesting things in the insolvency business... Give my regards to the Three Chord Wonders. Sir Trev FCMA.

I'm only AAT qualified at the moment, but am a School Bursar, am doing my School Business Manager qualification, then going to do CIMA. I wouldn't change what I do for the world. And yes I am one of the few who chose to be what I am! I love it!

^ do you have to be qualified to get a job in accounts these days?
because my dad isn't and my mum hardly went to high school (family issues) and both are FC/MD |

Yes and no. My dad is an unqualified accountant, and still deals with plenty of things (but he is qualified by experiance I guess) I know alot of the training jobs want at least 18 months experiance...and if you want a trainee role a lot of people don't have the experiance in an accounts role. AAT is a good way to do it, can get AAT in a year if you study hard, or 3 years if you slack and do it as the college tells you. Insofar as accounts being fun in my spare time...I do actually enjoy it. You are right, the insolvency service does give rise to some interesting cases, and the job in itself is interesting anyway. Is it bad that I find accounts interesting? ![]() |

I've worked in industry all my career rather than practice and have come across a lot of very competant QBE's. Trouble is they were effectively trapped in the one company. Without the qulaifications their CV was worth a lot less than someone who had got those letters. Bad - no Disturbing - YES!

My dad is QBE, and is a good accountant. He gets plenty of work because of his reputation. However, I can see how difficult it could be if you were trying for new work/clients without qualifications.
