I can't answer that tbh. My black visor says "For Daytime use only" or something similar.

It's very rare I actually carry a clear visor on me anyway! If I know there is a chance I might be traveling back in the dark or the weather isn't promising it's a different story!

The law they fine you under is the one that says your visor must transmit at least 50% of the light (dark one is about 5%). I actually think it's the same law as windscreens but not sure.

I don't know what the fine is, but the offence is for using a dark visor, not using one with no spare clear one. It's just that most coppers will overlook the visor offence if you can demonstrate being prepared for the dark / poor conditions by having your clear visor with you. To me it is just common sense to have a clear visor with you, just in case. The times I've forgotten my clear visor and been caught out have really been quite scary.

I got caught out yesterday first time using it and would agree.

Aside the pracitical reasons, which i now agree with
The law sucks
As G said, would you get pulled for wearing sunglasses ? i doubt it.
As it happens, my tinted pinlock isnt that dark hence the reason i havent had much problems with it, albeit when i picked up the drz from you mike, i wore my sunglasses as well as tinted visor cos sun was so strong.
The law is an ass, can understand if they pulled you at night wearing the dark visor, but in the day how do they know you're not going to be home by dusk and also a tinted visor is far safer in the sun than a clear one.

And by the same token, how do you know you will be? Traffic / chatting with mates / puncture / run out of fuel / etc. can catch you out.

I think that the police recognise the value of tinted visors in strong sunlight, hence the them being willing to overlook the offence if you are sensible. Otherwise it's an easy nicking. Go to the MAG website for more on efforts to get the law changed.

Exactly.

The amount of times you see people riding around at dusk with tinted visors on is silly, or you get the ped boys riding around at ngiht with them on.

So then, with a tinted pinlock, i would be ok just to remove that in the event of being caught out by changing weather, dusk?

I have an Arai one which is very good, but I haven't a clue how much they cost cos I won mine in a competition along with a padded helmet bag and a bundle of other Arai stuff..

That's some digestion issues you've got going on there!

Chris has an Oxford visor bag but the visor doesn't stay put very well and tends to slide out. So now he just carries it in his tankbag if he thinks he'll need the clear one with a bit of cloth around it to protect.

i've got a black visor on mine and havn't had any trouble with it (touch wood).

i can see the point about being caught out though i must admit. i do tend to only carry mine when i know i'm going to be out late.
whenever i do carry my spare visor its always in a visor bag and strapped round my stomach (visor around my back) under my leathers. i'm not a big person so its really comfortable round my back, and i dont really notice its even there.
