When laying tarmac Red Diesal gets coated on tools such as spades or in some instances rollers. This stops the tarmac sticking to the tools however some workers use an excess.

Correct. But it is not as bad the internet hacks makes it out to be. Once the top "coating" has worn off the grip level is normal. But because of recent events, most clients now request that some form of anti-skid surface is applied at junctions/braking zones etc.
