Yes, but it can affect the handling of the bike. Hence, I believe it has to be declared. However, I'm not adding anything to help her so I shall shut up on this subject.

I went with MCEinsure for a N4 postcode but didnt bother with Fully comp as it was way too pricey - would have worked out as buying the bike again just for 2 years insurance. Dont really see the need for fully comp unless the bikes brand new, any other time youll probably save money with TPFT unless you have a habit of throwing bikes down the road
![]() edit : worked out at £300 tpft for me with 0 ncb |

+1 for Bikesure - I'm with them, but insurance is based on each individuals circumstances so will differ to what I pay - area, NCB, age, postcode, claims, children, married, employment etc.
My advice would be not to stick to one comparison site. I tried gocompare dot com, and my cheapest quote FC was £172 - WHAT!!, (which funnily enough, was with my current insurers Bennetts). I usually pay circa £76, and I always only used gocompare. I then tried compare the market dot com, and my lowest quote was £108 (using the exact same details as go compare?). I ended up paying £124, which was with BIKESURE, as this included free Legal fees (well it cost me £16 for Legal fees based on the lowest quote of £108 I was provided with!) HTH. Chin |

Don't forget to haggle BTW, as that can help to knock it down. Make up a quote that is way less that the best that you've got and see if they can match it. I've knocked £300 off by insurance cost before by doing this.
F Comp can be really expensive in London, I just did TPF&T for the first year or two then switched - the no claims bonus brought to F Comp cost down to about half what it was before Last edited by Fizzy Fish; 11-04-10 at 07:30 AM. |

Thanks for the suggestions, people. I tried your suggestions - some were insanely high, others just wouldn't fully comp me with my postcode.
I think I've got it about as low as I can get it with £714 from Express (sounds absolutely insane in comparison to yours, Chin!) Trouble is, in addition to a London postcode, lowered bike, and no garage, I also had to make a claim last year (came off on a wet roundabout and insurance co decided to buy me a new bike instead of paying for panels) so all that added together means I'm unlikely to get a better offer elsewhere this year. Given that incident, I am also completely paranoid about not having fully comp, so wouldn't dare only go for TPFT. Thank you all though! |

Do phone around rather than using comparison sites - you can usually haggle a lower price if you say what you've gotten elsewhere and some companies will just outright offer a better deal than the comparison site claimed they did. Most comparison sites just treat a modification as that and ups the price whereas over the phone you can get them to say they won't charge more for it.
Also seriously consider dropping FC for TPFT - claiming on FC just kills your no claims bonus and that's what helps make the biggest difference in London, other than moving to a better postcode. You probably could have sourced new panels for your bike for less than the difference in insurance now you've lost your NCB. |
