I know it’s a tough one really.

1) I get tied into a mechanic with unknown/potentially huge costs. (Maybe minimal costs)

2) I go and buy an engine with known costs - quicker as well, just put it in. Get riding ASAP

I thought I'd add that there was no smoke coming from the engine, just a bit of black smoke when I first started it up. I will try and get my ear to it tonight, see if I can determine the where the noises are originating from.

P.S: I'm a retard, but I think I have changed the colour of the text! Has it worked?

The way to find out where the noise is coming from is by using a screwdriver pressed against various parts and listen to the handle.

If no one else can I may be able to nip round have a listen some time this week after work, depends where you are in Solihull, no promises though[1].

Well on the plus side you are *on* one of my commute home routes so there is a chance.
Are you likely to be home after 6pm (not today but maybe another day this week)?

Thanks. Is this worth checking then?

Shall I put my full powered ECU in, to confirm if there's loss of power or not?

Well if the compression is good you know your valve seats and rings/yclinder are ok, if its bad you know you have to really get another engine less hassle.

As for the noise nope, its not gonna help you find that.

I can drop it off so druid can test it if he wants. Althought i have every confidence i can fix any problem with my own bike, i dont like the responsibility of messing with others bikes lol.
