Have you ever used the roads in Paris?...if not, and you aren't planning on staying I suggest you find a route around it. Its an all for themselves wacky races affair, and not pleasant! Its suicidal!
If you aren't grey, you will be riding round it!!!!!

I think you should change the actual bike! They're not very good 2 up (and that's without the luggage). The stock suspension and brakes aren't great to begin with and all that extra weight will not help. It will also struggle for power under that load.
But you sound pretty set on the SV... So you should change the forksprings in the front forks as the standard ones will be nowhere near equipped to deal with weight of you, your wife and your luggage. I'd change the rear shock too as the standard SV one is pretty useless. I think a Hayabusa shock will fit an SV and is better suited for heavy loads. There are plenty on ebay. I agree with what others have said about your wife not carrying your rucksack, it would put an awful lot of strain on her back and if she was to come off the bike it could potentially cause some nasty injuries. Fitting a pillion grab rail to the bike would be helpful if there's not one already. As someone else has already mentioned, carrying some spare levers would be a good idea, they are pretty cheap to come by and you could sell them on when you get back if they weren't needed. Take a temporary puncture repair kit. Then there's the obvious stuff like adjusting your tyre pressures and headlights etc. Enjoy your trip and ride safe. |

It will be fine just not the best really. Might bottom a bit and handle a bit sluggish.
