really?
as it dropped [I]a lot[I]of oil very quickly, I think the seal must have gone? if I just retorque it I'll have to fill it with oil again and risk having to watch it all fall out again ![]() So I thought I'd try and replace the seal. Any advice on how to remove old seal/fit new one would be appreciated. I've taken off the sprocket. To remove the seal looks like I´d have to pull out with a knife? Does the new seal just push into place? Cheers |

I had a problem last year when the chain was over tightened which forced the sprocket seal out of placement, didn't drop oil in one dump, but was making it vanish quickly, and we couldn't figure out wher eit was coming from til I got home.
luckily I am clever and had some a litre of oil topping it up at various stops on the way home from Scotland. We backed off chain, and the sprocket seal reseated itself. NO, its not the same issue, I am just re-iterating YCs reply, the seal should be fine(fingers crossed) and tightening it back up again 'should' make the problem go away. You should be able to tell if its done the job, as before you go out just get it up to temp, and see if it starts dripping, oil changes in viscosity when heated up and will find its way out if your seal is buggered IIRC the seal is attached to a circular washer thing, I have a new one too, but never had to use it.
