A couple of questions-----
Given that the Durham prison authorities warned the police about this bloke making threats against his ex girlfriend were any measures taken?Or is that sort of thing so common that it would not be practical to act on that information? Also, this bloke apparently called 999 12 minutes before he shot PC Rathband.Given that he is Britains most wanted man and known to be armed and dangerous why was no general warning broadcast to the police in the immediate vicinity of that phone call?I dont suppose it was a landline call which would have been instantly traceable, but even a mobile call is instantly narrowed down to the local phone mast.Certainly London control centres automatically trace origin call locations and I assume Northumberland do the same. But no alert was given. Why not?

Shell, I really hope your friends brother gets well soon and has a good recovery.
I do wish the news channels would stop saying, "after a weekend long hunt for Raoul Moat, police have announced that.....they are closing in" I keep thinking, "at last, they've got him" and yet still hear the same thing. I too hope that the police are able to just take him out! |

I'm sure the force will maybe start thinking about these kinda things once they have a hold of him. Right now they are far to busy. |

GG and Speedy - my thoughts were intially I hope he gets caught and pays the price in the clink for what he has done and sits thinking about his children.
Now I just wish that he would kill himself so that no one else will get hurt and no AFO has to make that decision to pull the trigger, and possible get suspended for investigation. Update for David - his brother mailed this last night and I am sure he won't mind me sharing .............. Please except our thanks on behalf of David. He remains stable poorly and able to think about others. These messages are making him a least feel being a cop was and is still worth it, even after being shot at point blank range twice. Thank you from his famly and most of all from him. We remain at is bedside and his family are with him. Thank you Darren BikerBiggles - I have no idea how to answer your questions mate, I am just a PC and do as I am told and I do not make decisions based on information called in. I have no idea what warnings were given to Officers and I cam only imagine this will be scrutinised after he is caught. I would have assumed the phone call would have been triangulated, they can tell a N, S, E, W direction in between the 3 nearest phone masts and for this to be done there has to be criteria met, which I am assuming this would meet the criteria, I may be wrong but I think that is how it works. I know PC Rathband has alot of service and if he is anything like his brother he will be a very switched on Bobby. All I think is when I am on duty, sat in traffic I am a sitting target. If someone came to my window I would assume they needed help as that is the norm, Coopers Colour Code comes into play and although I would say I was in yellow driving around on a daily bases, I should be in the red. But what could he have done in reality ....... not alot? Moat could be anywhere by now ..... all I can say is fellow officers stay safe xxxxxx

Uh....why is an ITV reporter, Keir Symmonds trying to call Raoul Moat on his mobile phone?
He just said that they tried to call it last night but had no answer and that he tried calling it this morning and that it had been turned off. I find it a little disturbing that in the middle of a massive police man hunt, a reporter thinks it's ok to be trying to make contact himself. Also, stupid idiot....he's been camping out, the battery has more than likely died, so why comment that, "he may have turned the phone off as he's feeling the pressure of the net closing in on him". I am actually at a loss. Anyone with me on this? |

Shell, with regards to triangulating the signal, they may well have done that but sometimes its like a ten mile radius so even if they did alert the officers, he could have been ANYWHERE!! The whole thing has made me rethink how vulnerable we are when we are at work. Like you said above, you can get a bit complacent, forgetting the ever present risk. |
