Serious Q to someone who know what they are talking about , my wife asked me was it legal to have people sat at the table while driving (She noticed this at the weekend in one on the motorway). I assume it is. It is wise though?

It is in America Mr. White Rabbit of the oh so splendid variety.

I don't see the problem. If someone chooses to spend their money that way, let them, just like they let you spend your money on your bikes and other things you like.

Personally, I love going away and camping in any tent, but I also love going away in touring caravans, static caravans and I can also honestly say that every time I have had a holiday in a motorhome, I've loved it.

Yep, 15mpg or less for the motorhome, so makes sense to take a 60+ mpg car for driving around in when you get to your destination. Means you get all the luxury that the motorhome affords you and still the freedom of the little car.

Having a motorhome is amazing for travelling. Like a place you're in, stay longer. Don't like it and see somewhere nice on your travels, pull up and you're all ready to just turn the engine off, cook your dinner, have a shower and go to bed. Don't get that with a tent.

Also, not everyone is fit/well enough to be erecting tents, but still prefer to holiday like this than be confined to a hotel.....

live and let live

so long as you don't hold up lovely twisty roads and try and block a perfectly safe overtake like the one I was behind on Saturdays reccie!

Is it legal to be walking about in a moving motorhome? Or should you be sat down with a seat belt on?

Sure, live and let live. Doesn't mean I can't look at them as I pass and think "you're bloody nuts" to myself does it

It makes sense to take a 60mpg car to drive around in when you get there, 'cos the vehicles too damn big to go sightseeing with, but if you took a caravan you can unhitch then just use your own car, which is probably an adequate size for the family you have.

I don't have a problem particularly with caravans or motorhomes (other than I think new motorhomes are awful value for money), but when I see a motorhome towing a tiny little car, I can't help but guffaw. Like the title of this thread, it's just the wrong way round, doesn't make any sense to me. Smacks of nothing more than keeping up with the Jones's on the campsite.

Secondly it means you can stop and start at your convenience, no finding a proper site, winding legs up and down, or any other malarky. Pull over, go to bed, job done.
Thirdly if god forbid you do run into a traffic jam you get up, put the kettle on and have lunch. I've got a cooker, fridge shower and toilet all permanently up and running, no set up required.
This.

When I was with the ex his family had a caravan, and we'd go away with it from time to time, I hated it. Small person hated it, and it was possibly the worst weeks of holiday of my life.

I'd not have minded a motorhome so much though - and as I spent a lot of time moving fancy £50k+ horse transporters - that had better kitchens than my house!! - around the country I can really see the appeal of motorhomes.

If I were loaded then I'd probably buy one and the smart car to go with it. And then go abroad to the sun.

I'd go as far as to say that a tour in a motorhome would be less stressful than a long haul flight with a small child or two...

I guess that would depend on if you're allowed to walk around a motorhome, watch telly, play games, or whether a child is supposed to be strapped into a seat. Whether that's advisable is a different matter, even coaches carrying kids have to have seatbelts now, but if you can do that then I can see the attraction a bit more.

In america it state in the hand book of all motorhomes that if you engage cruise control you need to stay at the wheel to steer the motorhome as one stupid american put cruise on and went to make a cuppa!!! He sued the company for not writing it in the handbook and won lots of money. Only in the U S of A

Less stressful for other people too. Small children on flights should be locked in the f*ckin hold in pet carriers.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm quite lucky in that the small person is quite good on flights and in the cinema, she'll sit still and behave for quite a while.

I cant stand kids on planes or in the cinema that run about and are a general PITA.
