Hes deffo not lost weight, he seems to have gained some, Yorkshire portions! Although less available time to go to the gym has made his chest bulk shrink, too much work and less play

I'm quite happy with the lot I've got but I admit it ain't no utopia is it.

Maybe a world like this one but with far less famine, war, child abusers etc.

I want human beings to work it out, realise that having half the world starve is wrong and actually do something about it. I want Political parties to make decisions based on scientific evidence, not short term consumerist propaganda. I want all people to be free from enslavement, whether it be from regimes, corrupt religions or greedy royalty. I want all people to be safe from abuse, to be equal and bare responsibility for the state of society. I want the concept of money to be removed from society, trade devalues skills and puts value on things that have no worth.

Utopia as a concept is lovely, for me the best example of a complete Utopia would the Culture, a quick glimpse through the works of Iain M Banks will introduce you to the Culture and I want to live there.

Each day I grow more weary of the barbarous place that we have turned the Earth into.

I lived in Fiji for over 3 years and people look after each other there just fine, whether they know each other or not. I married into that life too, and even in the UK I get to have a little moment here and there with others of like mind. To be honest my family and I struggled to fit in when I got back to the UK, and it really hurt inside seeing how selfish everyone tends to be here.

Back in Fiji (my closest thing to utopia) there wasn't a day that went by where if I walked past someone's house they didn't ask me in for something to eat or a cup of tea. Whether they knew me or not...I obviously got to know them all though and made sure to share what I had too. That's just food and drink but it extends right throughout everything, quite a thing to be a part of really. There is a requirement for Money but most people in the rural areas have built thier own house, grow their own food and go fishing now and again, so money needs are restricted to electricity/gas/school fees/church (dont like that one!)/travel etc which can be covered fairly easily.

People of Fiji own time, time doesn't own them, so of course they get the time to look after one another and to be free.

I will be moving there in my later years where I hope I can put something back into the community that put so much care and attention my way. I may well teach computer programming skills to the older kids at school or start up an eco tourism place and hook up with the local people to earn them money and show travellers a proper good time.

IMHO where there is an abundance of money there is no chance of utopia, it's only where you see people without much and having the need for others help that you see the closest to a utopia...a true community sharing what it has is a happy one In Fiji it's almost as if you are just part of one very big family, people from different islands with no real blood ties (long forgotten anyway) for example have a cultural relationship, the tribal culture binds everyone.

My utopia is a place where people are healthy, happy and help each other with no other expectations.

Fiji sounds like a nice place to be!!!!

Do yourself a favour a go on your hols out there one day, £800 for a return adult fare via Seoul, South Korea (12hrs then almost 11hrs flight times).

When we visit family it's the long haul flight, then another day of domestic flights to get to our home in the middle of nowhere, Levuka

edit: only one downside to Levuka, the roads are not good....you would need a trial bike I'd say and even then replacement shocks would be needed quite often...maybe it would be time for a jetski instead

To add to my post of before.
After my conversation with my friends husband this morning in France.

My little uptopia would be still a little village in SW France, where people have a real sense of community. Where people wave and say hello, offer to help, or give a little advice over yer veg plot, where you can leave your door unlocked(yes these places exist over there) and where, although not a great standard of living compared to us materialistic lot in the UK, things are just simpler.

Oh and where they have a village picnic every year...today in fact! Where, in the largest village garden, under apple trees, everyone contributes food and most of all, home brew Pineau....mmmmmm hic!

There would not be enough good will to go around to have a Utopia . Every person in the Power producing industry could knock on your door and ask for a favour because they power your homes so you can use the internet . You would then run out of something they would want , like food for instance . They would get disgruntled by this and cut you off . You decide to use candles and wood instead and do without power , and a harsh Winter comes along and it becomes a bit of a grind . You change your mind and decide you want Power again but they want a massive favour to re-connect you back up . You can`t do it through not having enough favour-time for them and decide to go mad in public with a weapon due to the pressure of it all .

Now I , for one , will help anyone out to the best of my abilities ...... but eventually there are times when people take advantage of that and have not once returned a favour I have asked of them in return . It then leads to comments like "Remember the time I fixed your PC , looked after the Cat whilst you were away , helped you move house and rushed you to a Hospital because your partner was ill ? ....... and then I ask if you would run me to local shop to buy Brake pads for my bike but you said you were too busy that day , and I cycle past your house and you are sunning yourself in the back Garden .............. Well go and Fork yourself in some horrible manner"

Utopia inevitably leads to Anarchy , Anarchy leads to Suppression and Suppression introduces Systems to keep the Anarchists calm . Law and Order and a System has evolved . Be thankful that you have that and don`t live in a Hell hole of some sorts where you can ride your bike , eat food and enjoy a hot bath all for a bit of graft at the job you do ... and if you don`t like it , there is a System of Complaint to be followed .

the trick is to enjoy helping others and not expect anything in return.
some of these comments are awsome and I can see a great potential in people if only we could drop the what can you do for me attitude, and yorkie you helped me loads with free second hand tyres so your Gandy re-encarnated.
It feels good to look after someone doesnt it and it feels good to be looked after. win win so why are we so quiet and leave it to the crazie hippies to protest.
I don't get how I see my freinds look out fr each other every day but treat people they don't know with disregard.

I went surfing for a year when I got out the forces and Fiji was one of the stops. great people. as all over the world its only the insecure people that are freightened and on guard and they need to be cos oneday love is gonna tear their house down. Peace Smudgepants.
