Becareful of even the shallowest of puddles, you'd be surprised what they could hide; a pot hole or even a lowered grid.

Wet leaves are also the nastiest of things.

Thats very true, they dont think about bikes when designing roads and drainage.

You soon learn to spot them without really thinking about it.

Other lesson: bike gets filthy.

i wouldn't mind it every now and again but when winter comes ......
its 6am and the alarm is going off you hit the snooze while you tuck the cover all around you so the cold air cannot get in as you try to get five more minutes warmth, you can here the wind blowing hard and fast the rain hamming at your window and you just want to stay in bed, you rise and and peer through the blinds hoping its not as bad as its sounds but it is....you go have wash and brush your teeth hoping you fall in the process and break your ankle so you don't have to go out on the bike and can have a week off work.
Then you get all your gear on with the most miserable face in the world and exit the house into the cold, dark wet winter morning.

well that's how my winter mornings go anyway. and its nearly here.
