Check your charging system before condemning HID ballast or what have you... what I thought to be the ballast being affected by vibration when moving turned out to be it going into some overload-mode as it didn't like being fed 16V.

I vote for roughly 4000k or 6000k, got 35w 4300k main beam in my bike and 50w 6000k in my car, how ever the 50w kit burns the paint off of the car in front and are mega bright

has anyone got a pic of the back on the HIDs?
on my curvey it is belived i've been gifted witha set of HIDs as well, one of the connecting wires has chafed to death and for that has died meaning i've got to get an in-line cable splice and make a new cable (easy enough).

I just wondered what fitted HIDs look like from the rear though as mine (if i even had them fitten) are dull as anything at night and seeing the road is impossible

They could also just be some chav bulbs.

Do they start with a flash and make a whining for a few seconds?

you can tell by how they turn on, the HIDs normally turn on with a quick flash, get a bit dimmer, then brighten up again. There is usually a sort of buzzing noise comes from the ballasts

EDIT: dam beaten to it

Think they are just chav bulbs, they just turn on and no flash/sound.

Chav bulbs are crap. They may be more wattage... but they are just painted blue to look silly. They produce more heat and less light.
