yeah but in fairness your dads not the 62 year old whos never turned on so much as a washine machine, he's tech smart ps3 will be fine for him especially when you can get the remotes so you're not having to use the cont'pad

toy story and up are fantastic films zap it's mamma mia and the other muck which comes with them lol...

if you getting you hands on .MKV's then why do you want a blu ray player ?
Just get media server that supports HD 1080p playback , for around 60-70 quid, drag and drop your MKV movies onto a USB HDD or Dongle and bobs ur tea pot. or you can even steam the 720p ones over your WAN from your PC or if they are 1080p you'll have to use LAN.

Aye, but its your mum and dad you're buying for, so they might like Mamma Mia

Anyway I bought one of these, not blueray, but upscales to DVD to 1080P, has a USB & SD card slot on the front panel

I played a standard DVD on it and quality is excellent. If you parents are techie enough then they could convert films and store them on a USB or SD card

Its small enough to cart around, or to use with a portable TV. For £24.99 I can't fault it. It gets really good reviews on Ebuyer too
