I am about to jump ship (10 working days left!) and like you said money isn't every thing. I'm leaving for a grand total of 1k! and my commute will go up a little bit, so we have worked out that we will be the same off financially. But like G I am sick of my job here!

You need to wright down the pro and cons of leaving against the ones of going. Commuting is not a nice think, Drew commuted an hour each way each day until he got his new job in Birmingham (so about 18 months). He was moody as anything when he got in, tried all the time due to his leaving time in the morning, near the end if he hadn't of got a job closer to home I was close to telling him to live with his mother during the week (which was only a few miles away from his work) and I would see him on a weekend only. (however he is a moody sod )

If you are happy in your current role, why move?

When is your next salary review? Find proof of what somebody of your age, knowledge and experience should be earning in the market place. I know for my field a salary survey is published each year with what each grade average salary is.

Remember if you are doing that you need to pick companies that are similar. For example I wouldn't compare my salary currently (FTSE 250 in Birmingham) against a FTSE 100 Co Sec Assistant in London, as mine is about 6-8k less.

Cheers folks (and quiff, remind me to kick you in the nuts next time not 100% sure why you appear to want to take the **** so much, if thats what your doing? )

yea it makes less sense after bri pointed that out that actually ill be worse off. Oh well back to the drawing bord. ive just been getting these offers more than once a month over the last year or so so its slowly starting to sound more tempting. In my mind security counds for a lot especially if i start thinking about kids and such. Cheers for your thourghts.

[QUOTE=Quiff Wichard;2438155]pack it all in Andy and be a tramp.. Like Me!

ONLY thing to consider: will the extra mileage put me off riding the bike for fun ?

In a nutshell, move to Aberdeen

Are you staff at you're current position or a contractor?

I agree with letting you're boss/company find out about the job offers with higher wages, guys do that here and it pays off for them.

But all in all, you know you'reself.

yea ive considered moving up there sally, basically i could happily double my wage up there. only thing is its a) bloody expensive to get a house and b) could do with the support of family if we do have kids.

ive let the company know about the offers. The basic deal is well go for it we would understand. im already the highest paid in our office bar the manager.

think ill see if something comes up closer to home. Things are due to change apparently after i come back from skiing in march so maybe see whats happening then?

I'm not sure why your so bothered about security if your getting a few job offer every month... sound like you could move as often as you life if thats the case.

In reality 3 years in a company means nothing if you get made redundant... you'll get about £900 statutory.

Yeah I know, £750 per month for a nice normal 2 bed flat, that's around 15 minutes from city centre.

House prices are even worse! Long way to move for a job

With talk of Aberdeen are you oil and gas? What role do you do?

You're in a hell of a handy place for the work I do, we've been taking on a lot of oil and gas industry people as that area has been getting hit with the recession.
