I would personally take the raincovers, roll them in a ball, and throw them as far as you can across the nearest field. I just pack my stuff in a bin bag and put that inside the luggage and I've never had a problem with wet gear. I just couldn't get the raincovers on tight enough, it was like riding with a partially deployed parachute.
