I've got the Avon Storms. They are good in all aspects, weather, mileage, grip e.t.c.

Diablo Strada if your on a tight budget. They've been replaced by the Angel ST so lots of old stock being flogged off cheap, and they are a good tyre for the SV.

Maxxis are cheap, but don't now what they are like.

That's completely normal, you can feel them getting warm in the wet in some conditions (avons anyway). I know badgers mate damage1400 has been witnessed with steam coming off his tyres.

Obviously dont have the skills for it in the wet!! :P

Awww if its normal then ignore me But last summer i could swear my dads Sportsmart was about to burst into flames after a quick ride!

Touch the tyres and feel like you could be Josh Brookes going over the mountain! (no homo :P)

I think you cannot go wrong with any modern sports/tourer tyre these days. My personal preference is Avon Storms but the Dunlops that came on my current bike also seem pretty good.

One word of warning on the stradas, the tread does no cross the centre band of the rear tyre. This makes it hard to gauge the wear in the place it wears most, I know of three or four riders who have suddenly found themselves riding on the canvas in the middle of a ride because of this.

On a well surfaced road with a lot of shellgripped corners you can get them bloody hot (considering it's p*ssing down)

It is not skills, just gaining that confidence. If the tyres aren't giving you the confidence to get them warm in the wet they won't feel like they're giving you confidence... vicious circle.

You can get the storms hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch, you get supercorsas that hot and your hand will pretty much stick to them

I'm decided Avon Storm 2 Ultra, under £200 a pair fitted. Hope those who've helped me to choose them are right. Watch this space I'll let you know.
