Another agreeing with Dave!

Presumtion is a dangerous thing! Same as thinking that someone is about to turn into a junction because they have their indicator on. Never assume to know what someone else is going to do.

+1 on all that expect the unexpected to happen as you can guarantee someone will pullout or stop dead infront of you at some point.

I see some drivers getting miffed when there flashing me to pull out but I'm not trusting my life to someone else's judgement.

A similar - Ok completely different - situation that I was beating myself up for.
Traffic lights go green and the scooter in front of me takes off and the pedesdtrian that has run in front of the bus bounces off the front of the scooter & they both fall in a heap.

should I have stopped or carried on laughing my head off?

The above is almost exactly what happened to me, except I was on the bike (NB: not a hawg) at the give way line and while the way was 'clear' it was very much about to stop being so as someone had come flying around the roundabout, so I stopped at the give way line. Dozy bizznatch behind me was likewise assuming I'd gone and so looking to the right, BANG right up my chuff.

Your last look should always be in the direction you want to travel.
Sorry, but biker at fault, you can't assume the car will go, they may see something you haven't, or even just think they've seen something, they could stall/breakdown anything.

Look where you're going

+1 I find a quick nod or a wave calms them down usually.

Similar experience for me. That's how I managed to write off Foxy's Ninja. Not enough forward observations. Totally the bikers fault. Regardless of what the car driver did or didn't do.

Personally, if I were in that position (having observed the accident) police on scene and having already established it was the bikers own fault, I wouldn't have bothered to stop. But that's just me.

Its just been pointed out by a guy at work, the location of the incident is directly opposite the harley garage. I so wish I'd noted if the hog was brand new or not, imagine if you'd owned it for no more than half a mile and dropped it... Reminds me of that GSXR vid on you tube where he wipes out in the car park on collection of a new bike.
