If anything I'd like 80bhp, so as a compromise I may look for an ER6 ECU, throttle bodies and cams. That lot will give me 72bhp which is a bit more than the 63 I have to play with now. The last thing I want is to lose the midrange flexibility of the Versys engine, so I'll borrow a friend's ER6F for a few days to see if I like the engine tune, and then decide

Will that not just give an ER6 with high bars and long sussies? Is the frame not identical?

Kawa have missed a trick not building a big cc Versys over the last few years.

Now is too late as the RRP would make yer head spin.

Early indications appear to be no. Particularly if your idea of adventure entails anything other than tarmac and firm gravel roads. Even the XC version is reportedly considerably less capable offroad than the F800GS (which is the bike Triumph are directly competing against). Still, most 1200GSes have never been off the 'pavement' , so may not be a problem for many users.

Personally, I really want the Japanese to start to do a proper medium capacity adventure bike in the vein of the Africa Twin again. I don't like the KLR much and the New Super Tenere is a bit too GS1200 for my liking. I want something in between and at the moment, that means a BMW (overpriced, unreliable, but incredible when it works).

I find them too technical.
Yes I've drooled over the ZX10 as it'll be a brilliant bike, but i resepect it like a white good.

I find the older bikes have more character

Riding position is completely unlike an ER. The frame and engine externals are identical... the rest is all different.

There's a world of change between an ER6 and a Versys to ride. The ER is harsher where the Versys will glide over bad surfaces.
