If my bike fit through it, I tend to go through it. Best ones are between 2 stationary artics lorries

Speed varies between walking pace and a lot faster than I should, dependant on a number of factors...

My thoughts exactly these days, car drivers may whinge for a bit but they'll soon forget about it...and if they don't feck em

If you have a bike and don't filter when it would be advantageous to do it then you've missed a big point about bikes...

But as said take it easy to begin with, and keep you wits about you...I had my first off because I took too much for granted going around the outside of queued traffic and got caught out by a stupid car driver pulling out on me....I learnt a valuable lesson that day - take it bloody easy and always allow plenty of distance or an escape route where there is traffic that can move on you!

Its the first time apart from the M25 car park that going to work on a bike that i have met heavy traffic.
The big difference is how much less petrol I'm using.

I do at a slower speed than most but the tips I would give are-------
If there is a space where somebody could make a lane change watch out and expect somebody to do it ----and not necessarily signal before hand.
Use headlights, even go to main beam in daylight hours.
Cover your clutch, brake and horn and try and maintain an escape route
Be in a slightly lower gear which would allow for quick acceleration, remember there are three ways to avoid contact, speed, brake manoeuvre

Lucky you! I'm riding around Norfolk and find more than ever that I filter either in the towns at rush hour / traffic lights etc or on the long weekends when big tail backs occur on the main routes, I blame the caravans I have become very impatient on the SMT though, it is "hooliganising" me, maybe that's the reason!

Im not that fast a rider so tend to just go with the flow rather than pushing through it, but do draw the line at caravans

Think thats my problem, I do just sort of push through it, not barging my way, but if theres a gap, then i`ll take that thankyou very much, especially filtering when on the way home from work. Im worse going home than riding to work.

Car drivers are often very slow, handbrake off, into gear etc, so I tend to take advantage and nip in, doesnt really save me any time over the car journey home, but keeps me moving more.

i agree with this, i would rather go off the main route, take an extra 3 miles home and keep moving than just sit in the traffic through Selly Oak in birmingham......i hate roadworks.
