The top current HTC is the Sensation

Not sure how available it is.

The Incredible S is the next best.

Get the Desire HD, it is amazing and will have all the iphone geeks green with envy, the screen is fantastic, and just looks like a small tablet PC. I have the standard desire, which i mainly got coz the O2 shop I went to was out of iphones, so decided to have a play on the HTC, and fell in love with it there and then, wouldnt change it. My renewal is due in a month or two and I will definately be getting the sensation.

I have had a HTC desire HD 3 months and can say its amazing. Basically i use it to do all the thinks i do on my laptop at home, but at work hiding the phone behind a book. 24h access to Sv650 forum, ebay, hotmail, Facebook, online banking, Wikipedia if bored to read random articles ect...

The phone is probably faster to access websites than my laptop and the screen is that big sometimes i streem tv in bed next to my GF and watch iplayer as she would not allow a tv in the bedroom.

Why?

Its a 8 month old phone - makes it pretty much obsolete before you will be half way through any contract.

Forget being blinkered to HTC, as I think you are still confucing HTC and Android.

Look for a phone that is at least running Android 2.3 and has a 1GHZ or faster CPU, most of the new ones are coming out with 1.2GHZ or Dual Core 1GHz or even both.

Try to stick to one that does not use the nVidia Tegra CPU/Chipset, I have it on good authority from someone who works in a closely related industry that the Tegra is not that great and isnt as well featured than the Snapdragon or Hummingbird CPUs.

Once you find a range of phones that fit that, chose your secondary feature - ie whats important to YOU.

If you want a camera ir even HD video recorder in your phone, then you can easily get 8.1MegaPixel Cameras with decent optics and flashes, that will record at least 780p HD content.

If its music playback then one with some hardware music controls may be the answer.

I got the Xperia Play as I wanted the Hardware Gaming controls.

Once I would have only advocated an HTC because of the SenseUI that they wrap around Android which does have some nice features, the downside (as I learned on an HTC Hero) is that when there is a new version of Android released, you then have to wait for HTC to release a version of that with SenseUI updated, whith then needs to go to your provider to be "Oranged" or "T-Mobiled" before you get it - and they often decide that its not worth their effort.

I have Android 2.3 on my Hero, which neither HTC or T-Mobile bothered to conver for the Hero, it runs it, so is capable, but I had to root/jailbreak it to do this myself. It doesnt have SenseUI, but with the way Android has developed in the last year or so, things like SenseUI or the other manufacturers versions of are less and less important as Android on its own can be quite "shiny" and pretty, unlike Android 1.5 which is best described as functional.

Lol - that would have been about true a couple of years ago, these days as long as its not fruit based is fine by me

As said, there are about 2 criteria to worry about and from there its what you want it to do.

If someone WANTS me to chose one for them, the closest they will get is steered to a choice of one or two with a personal preference expressed then sent on their way to make their choice
