If you can, get self-inflating ground mats as well. We bought something similar to THESE and they have been worth every penny. Pack small enough and provide enough comfort and insulation for a couple or few nights. Pillow - Take a pillow case and stuff it full of clothes when there. Oh and sleep with ear plugs in... For a roll mat I bought one of those thin lilo style mats. So it's a ribbed inflatable bed, has a weird inbuilt foam pump thing

Dont forget you can use compression sacks to make a couple of sleeping bags smaller than one on its own. These are available from nearly all camping/outdoor shops and aren't very expensive.

I have a Quencha bag that i got from Decathlon. Its packs down small and is fine for a summer bag. Its rated at 3 season, but if im honest, i wouldnt want to sleep in it at below 5 degrees. The bag cost me about £15 a few years back.
My mate always takes a duvet with him. I kid you not. |

If you are going somewhere warm, Tesco's sell thin sleeping bags that pack away to nothing for about £10.

Its a false economy when its 3am and your feet feel like they will drop off.
My £25 Snugpak has been good for the past 5 years or so. A good tent and a good sleeping bag are more than worth the cost, compared to the the experience of a cold night. Oh and put 2/3rds of your available bedding beneath you - the ground leeches heat faster than the air.
