Yoshimura exhaust query

From my personal experience, after I started to wear ear plugs, my speed, progress and general confidence on the bike increased. As it turns out, the sound of the new exhaust, especially at high revs, was putting me off.

Still love the sound but can't help of thinking on my poor neighbours when I came back home late at night.

Tonight I used some pliers and managed to get all this sheet type metal out of the exhaust.

Results:

With Exhaust can off- Louder and popped considerably more when rolling off the throttle. (Defiantly not road legal, the police would hear you coming from miles away, its ridiculously loud (my ears are still ringing)


With can on - slightly louder, few nice burbly pops when rolling off the throttle.

For the 10 minutes it took to remove all this metal I'd say its worth it.

just a slight word of warning for those people who intend on smashing the cat out.

lambda sensors are delicate items. so to be on the safe side its better to disconnect them and take them out before you go cutting the pipe or smashing the cat out.

to replace the probe its about £160.

the angle is misleading, it's a good 2-2.5 inches away, if you're that bad with power tools perhaps you shouldn't be using them anyway

You don't even need any power tools, pliers are more than suitable for the job. (Y)

Without testing equipment I would argue that quantifying the results is impossible using just the human ear or worse, a traumatised buzzing ear.

That's my bike where we removed it. Didn't take long at all with a pair of pliers in the expert hands of Mr Rictus.

My bike is now very loud. This morning I started it up in our echoey cul-de-sac at 7.30am. Not worried about the neighbours though, as Mr LPH's bike is waaaaaaay louder than mine with his twin pipes on the XJR1300 and he'd already woken the whole street up when he left home at 6.30am!

Two pages of posts about removing a cat, and not a single person commenting on why its there.

Its there so you can play your small part in riding a cleaner emitting engine,for all our sakes.

Removing it, just so we can breathe a little more of your ****e emissions is not in my view a reasonable way to behave. Ok, it might only be a little difference, but if everyone thought sod you, this planet will become uninhabitable sooner than ever.

is the performance gain really *so* valuable that kids need to develop asthma, just so you can ride your smallish capacity, mass market medium powered vehicle just a fraction more noisily?

Or are motorcyclists more selfish than the average person? More of a "sod you, I'll do as I like" attitiude? I am beginning to think so - dealing with accidents, and how all the advertising is geared to make bikers feel like "exceptional victims". How "self justifying" the ads are, and the attitude of those who use them.

So riding bikes noisier and dirtier than they need to be, just to give you the horn? Making an infetestimal difference to its performance. No wonder more women dont bike. Even poor Barwel saying how it "will" hinder performance. From the man who has to use his dads hatchback as a braking aid... So much concern about performance from a bike who's ultimate goal isn't ultimate performance. At least if you bash the cat out of a gsxr1000, I might understand the mindset, even if I still don't approve of you providing more crap out your pipe than you need to....
