RAC has only been needed twice in nearly a decade's motoring, both times for a knacked battery where I was unable to get it to a charger, and both times the guy turned up much sooner than the estimate and was a jolly portly chap who was very pleasant.

Well my experience with the AA has been varied.

1st time the gear lever had undone itself, simple fix, except the guy didnt gave circlip pliers, but managed to bodge.

2nd time, relayed from Bolton to London - took a bit longer than it should, thanks to using 3 different vehicles, but all good in the end

3rd time - flat battery due to sidelights being left on - I removed the seat while he got the jumper pack, jumped it and all happy

4th time - snapped clutch cable - dreaded the wait of them sending a "normal" guy out to say it cant be fixed at the roadside, then have to wait for a recover-type vehicle to then be sent out. Surprisingly the guy had the kit and materials to make up a new clutch cable so was fixed and I rode home.

Admittedly on all occasions they were over the hour to get to me - the Bolton one they subbed it out to a local garage to at least get someone to me while their own guy was on his way, which was nice.

So while they dont do accident recovery, they have been good.

So absolutely useless where a bike has touched the deck and even for a minor fender bender when you just want to get the car home etc.
It may be in the small print Mr Wilky, but after all 5 of my accidents both the AA and RAC have recovered my bike.

Like most i have had good and bad experiences with the AA (Who im with currently) and the RAC. More with the RAC if im honest., but there you go.

AA's 5 star european cover is brilliant and been on the recieving end of it a couple of times with friends.
