I have already got the bike. Anyway no offence to anyone but I prefer the looks of the pointy. I'm happy with the choice of bike, and cant complain with the insurance quote. I just need to pass my test. Lessons start tomorrow

As for crash bungs - I think the main difference is that R&G and Motosliders actually go through the frame itself. You get a replacement engine mounting bolt and they're held snugly in place by that and another mounting bolt.

Cheaper versions simply bolt on and are easily torn away in a crash.

I have R&G's

Just to throw another viewpoint into the mix.

If you have Fully Como, as I did when my SV was written off, you WILL get a hire bike in a timely fashion, and everything will be sorted out more quickly, regardless of fault.

If it was the other guys fault, this will not affect your NCB.

So, Fully Comp DOES have its advantages, regardless of the value of your vehicle.

I also believe that if its not your fault you can refuse to let them write your vehicle off and insist on a repair.

If it was the other guy's (or very possibly girl's) fault you still get a hire bike. That's what I did. Granted it's a little more effort though!

The only disadvantage I found to 3rd party was the insurance ombudsman wouldn't help me when Aquote scammed me , they said I needed to be fully comp (however I might have just got a bad advisor when I rang) and also in the case where you've had a crash and a third party's involved and are claiming, you're going to get a black mark anyway so it'd be worth claiming your own bike.

But with the price difference you've been quoted it'd still be a barmy choice.

It'd also be policy specific I'm sure.

Yeah, but how quickly did their insurance sort you out AND was it pretty open and shut on fault?

True but I bet they all do it now as it gives them something to whittle on about for ages when they try and upsell you. I hate doing the insurance ring round!

Granted it took 2 months to get the money for the travel expenses and no it wasn't open and shut on fault it took almost 3 years (might have been two actually) to settle (in my favour).

I think it depends very much on your personal circumstance. If you have to have a bike as a means of getting to work and you can't afford to lose it, then there is some peace of mind in going fully comp. If on the other hand it's just a toy and it wouldn't be the end of the world if you bin it and it's off the road for a while then TPO makes a lot of financial sense. I'm luckily in the later camp and I don't even have theft insurance on any of my bikes as I live in a relatively safe area with everything nicely locked away. I think it has to be a fairly substantial claim (several thousand) to make it worth while involving an insurance company, otherwise you just end up paying for it anyhow in the long run.

I don't need the bike for work so thats ok. As with all insurance its a gamble.I can afford to replace the bike. I think im going to get tpft, and put the money aside for repairs etc. If not used it can go towards a new bike/uni.
