Does it make a noticeable difference over running a set of stock Pirelli's?

As I am only new to this type of racing I'm not sure. Having seen everyone else with experience either do burnouts to warm the rear up (whilst on slicks) or use a wet rear I can only imagine that they have discovered that a cold standard dry tyre does not grip as well in the short time you are on the bike. I have just got another wet with a slightly different tread pattern to put on when the current one has gone off. It will take a while to see.
