Impossible to tell if your rear brake is working as normal without riding the bike, but you should feel the rear brake bite, and get a bit of squat at the rear, and a slow down of the bike. You should certainly be able t lock the rear with what doesn't feel like an awful lot of pressure. The difference between a brake that needs serviced and a brake that's been serviced is night and day, even though because it's always been that way, you didn't really realise there was much wrong with it before the service.
My SV rear brake first needed serviced at about 18 months old and 12,000 miles, so they can deteriorate quickly. |

Tim the pads , fluid etc were changed at the last service at suzi dealer , the bikes got more history than me , the pedal travel just seems excessive but not soft , im just not sure how much travel or effort should be required . I know I should of done this years ago but the first bit of my life got in the way .

Congrats and welcome. I waited 20 years between car licence and bike licence so I can relate (sorry, that sounds a bit American). And re the rear brake, all joking apart you'd be amazed how much difference a heavier pair of boots make!

Thoughts on the brake now ? , i've removed the caliper , the pads are new , the slide has been greased and moves freely , it's a single piston caliper and the piston goes back smoothly with finger and thumb pressure , any ideas ?

Fluid change & bleed? TBH mate none of us can tell you what's wrong with your brakes. All we have is your perception as a car driver, that they are not as powerful as you expected that they should be. They could be working as well as any other bikes rear brakes. Get a more experienced biker to ride the bike for you and tell you if he thinks they are normal. And at the end of the day if they can lock the rear on a dry day, even if you have to stand on them to do so, they are as powerful as you need them to be.

Cheers Ralph , I took the bike to work today and flushed and bled the front and rear brakes and changed the dog bones , stuck it on the brake rollers and there was only 6kg difference before and after although they will lock out , im now thinking its a combination of me being used to servo assist , unusual foot position and me expecting to much from the bike . Thanks anyway.
