I like the Nixon, we both have loads of watches and that actually looks a little different, it doesn't matter if it has no date if you are only using it as a smart watch, you only need a date on your everyday watch.

Had this one on my Wrist for the past 14 years, never let me down ( apart from the Service... £300)
It's a BVGARI Ch35S. I got it from an Cadet Arab (Very Rich one at that) who's car would start back in 1997 in Sandhurst whilst visiting my mate ... I got his car going and he took it off his wrist and gave it to me :0) ![]() only looses one second per year, but then again I have to reset it every month as the date goes amiss.. :0) EDIT :- Just found it on fleebay... Price make me thinks I shouldn't wear it as a casual watch... :0( going to have to wear my Exercise watch now...

I have one of these, Casio G-Shock G-011D for a few years. Water resist of 20 bar, analogue hands but the right LCD screen can show time, date or day. Usual digital modes - alarms, dst, world time, timer, stopwatch. I like it because it's stainless steel plated so looks more elegant than the usual in your face labelled G-Shocks but has the same tough shock protection.
![]() I got it abroad though, not sure if UK Casio stockists have these for you to see in the flesh. Light isn't too great, it's a yellow led that barely illuminates the hands, it does have an auto illuminate on movement mode you could switch on in case er... your non watch arm drops off after setting it on and it's dark. This is a better worded review and slightly cooler face than mine Last edited by Venom; 22-01-12 at 01:49 AM. |

I'm amazed how many responses this got considering its a biking forum
![]() Thanks for all the suggestions guys, my latest verdict is if I'm going to get a decent watch I'll do it with a decent budget so let the saving begin! Richie: that is an awesome watch! what a story too! Venom: I quite like that, my main concern is it getting battered about a bit so that seems like a nice option, smarter yet still durable. My protrek is titanium and some fancy glass yet I've managed to scratch both parts quite well in the 6-7 years I've had it. DaveMac: I like it! different display but not different enough that you have to refer to the manual each time you want to read the time ![]() StitchSV: Both good suggestions but beyond my current budget as I was struggling to mentally justify spending the 87.50 on the skagen. hence the idea to sit on it for a while and save some so that I have a dedicated budget just for this. (still won't be much though) as my other issue is I don't want to spend between £200 and £600 on a watch that I will be bored with and want something new in 5-6 years time (like this one now, thankfully I got it for less than £100 so I don't feel too bad). I think my main problem with this whole decision is that I can't see myself walking around with something on my wrist thats potentially worth more than a bike! I'm just a lowly consumer, I don't care if the watch loses even 10 seconds a day to be honest, I'm never going to be THAT reliant on it or away from another clock for such a time as it will become an issue. That is why watches (and primarily ships clocks) were made so precise in the first place, so that they still told the same time when columbus got to the other side. For me this isn't an issue and I don't mind inaccuracy because I not prepared to pay for it. I'm shallow in this case and after style, and something I like the look of (these two are not mutually inclusive). I'm sort of with maviczap in this case, that I want a nice watch but I also don't want to spend so much that I'll be mortified if I damage it because it will get damaged at some point over the lifespan (as I suspect above, 5-6 years I reckon) I wish I was the kind of person that could look after it, have a nice simple working life of just desk work and meetings but I end up grovelling under desks, reaching through server racks and various other potentially watch damaging activities. I also don't have the presence of mind to remove my watch before embarking on such tasks ![]() I think in the end I'm going to end up with a "sacrificial" cheapish timex for the indiglo and general use watch and (what I consider) a mid range (£80-£180) posher watch for the times when I can wear it without risking too much. Plus at that price point I can feel better about it getting a few scratches over the lifespan etc. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I've really appreciated having so many points of view. despite the way I word things perhaps, I've had my perspective shifted a few times through this thread so its really been worthwhile from my point of view. as an aside, perhaps we need a photo thread of "show us your watches" seeing as we have so many cool ones in our midst! |

the beauty of that watch is the display has 3 settings, constant on, flashing or off till you press the button, i go for the latter

I had a skeleton watch in the 80's
I now have 13 watches.. (me like them)... I love to wear a different one every day .. (for 13 days at least) me like my Toy Watch and Rolex. but for everyday use fossil or Bench or any watch that takes your fancy- net do some lovely ones for only £30.. thing is internet browsing is one thing but you need to go and try them on to get the feel.. Richie,.., you sure that watch isnt bugged? Scoobs- is your watch really that big? |

For day to day I swear by Citizen. Light-powered, waterproof, tough as old boots and still look quite smart. For "dress" I used to have a Movado which was fantastic but it got nicked by the same bunch of toerags who stole our camera on holiday. Insurance paid for this:
which I really love. My next watch purchase is probably going to be another Skagen - those crazy Danes know how to make a nice looking watch. And Carlsberg of course. |
