Maybe they've not read the manual...

Go to the shelter and give the poor ones there a home.
This would be the responsible thing to do - but the 3 people we have lined up are set on our pups!

I really wouldn't for the welfare of dogs. Unless you are planning to keep them all then go ahead!!
We dont expect her to have more than 2-3 tops, she is so small. We have 3 family members lined up, and the next door neighbour is a possible 4th!

Oh, go on then!

On a serious note, we arent looking to profit from this, if anything we'll lose money on vet bills, and we've agreed after the first litter they are both getting the snip.

HOWEVER

They have to be successful first...

just rename them panda's and call them an endangered animal, i think short of actually pushing them into it, if they dont want to, they wont.

They've been at it for weeks but no go. Can anyone tell me if these are normal?

  • Female humps male, while biting his back? (read this is possibly a dominance thing?)
  • Male is CONSTANTLY licking the female region. She seems to enjoy it...
  • Male humps female but he is way off target (too far to one side, too far away, humping her head...)
  • She just walks off after about 15s, like she's bored.
I thought nature made sure these things come naturally to animals, but he seems to have no clue. Any other tips to get this to work?

Serious question is the bitch in season ?
A season only lasts about three weeks with the best chance of a succesful mating around day twelve

It never is as simple as it would seem it should be!

I'll be honest, if I were you I would tell all your family and your neighbour to go to the shelter and re-home a dog that really needs it and your wife can do the same. If intent on having puppies, get them from a breeder so that you know that they are healthy.

Might sound harsh, but if both parents are cross breeds and different crosses, you have no way of knowing how the crosses, being mixed again could affect the puppies. When breeding isn't done carefully, all sorts of problems can be bred into the pups and leave them born to a life where they can have all number of health issues.
How will your family/neighbours feel if a few years down the line they are faced with massive long term vet bills to deal with avoidable issues?

It could be something simple, or it could be that they are prone to hip dysplasia (sp). Whatever...there are so many dogs that people buy and later abandon and they desperately need homes.

Just my thoughts on this...and yes...if it does happen it will cost you a fortune.
