Polishing mop, scouring pad for the tough bits and then Autosol. It helps to have an IPod to give you something to listen to while you rub away for many, many hours.

And the more you rub the better they get. I speak as someone who has no fingerprints left. But the forks are the DBs so it was worth it.

It was a while ago since I last did a set but when I did I used an orbital sander to get rid of all the casting marks, then a bit of wet and dry, and then one of those polishing kits that has three mops used with an electric drill. Coarse first, then medium, then a final buff. Ended up with a mirror finish that almost looked as if they have been chromed, but a word of warning....they're a devil to keep clean afterwards!

I used a random orbit sander with a polishing pad and anusol.

Or was it autosol?

Same here, hours with the wet and dry and then hours more with the polishing mop. I did have to use Anusol after!

Top tip, take a cushion to the garage!

Before attacking them with any sort of abrasive stuff, which will leave marks on them.....strip the laquer off with Nitromorse, or as I preferred as it was more effective, Blackfriars, it doesn't run and is slef nuetralising.

Once you have got rid of the laquer, and have washed your forks, it will give you a better idea of how heavy a grade of wet n dry to use...or whatever you fancy using.

I am offended,you didn't ask me!

And no clear coat after, because it'll only happen again, waste of time IMO, better to spend five minutes polishing them up than all the faff of stripping again.

haha

Forgot you've done yours. I very much doubt that mine are coated (unless they're done at the factory).
Mine are just dulled with a bit of well ground in crap which may shift with bar keepers
