In last month at least my mate was putting tax on something on his traders policy.

When I bought my SV new, I got insurance company to send certificate to the dealers fax. He had his own tax stuff ( printer or blanks?) I think cos he produced tax disc 5 mins after.

Good luck. They can do it but often do not want to. My GSX had no tax on it and I had to faff about down to the Post Office myself. When I suggested sending the dealer the documents so I could just ride away I was told it was down to me. But then this particular dealer also failed to put any fuel in it (I had to coast to a petrol station on fumes) and handed it over covered in dust and mess from their showroom renovations...
The dealer makes no money from the time it takes him to sort it for you. So unless you spend a LOT with them or they want to keep you sweet don't be surprised when they leave you to it. Even though I coughed over four and a half grand in cash I was left out in the cold. Will never go there again of course - their loss.

York Suzuki have let me ride home with their trade plates and then drop them off when the bike is legit (same day usually)
