While I know a fair bit about this, the forum's probably the wrong place for chatting about it

A lot of the illegal booze out there at the moment is variously mixed cleaning fluids and other crap. Really not nice and not at all moonshine.

Distilling your own isn't hard, but can be slightly dangerous. No more expense involved in making high quality vodka than blindness inducing swill.

Yep, I saw a program about Bootleg Booze the other day, not the stuff from Calais hypermarkets, but the homebrew stuff.

For those who'er partaking the outlook for their brain, liver & kidney's is not good. A big percentage are students who don't need their brains.

Compared to supping yourself stupid with normal booze which has absolutely no ill effects!

A lot of the problems are methanol related. Properly distilled booze has less methanol in it than quality red wine. Honestly you would need to be an expert to tell it apart from premium vodka. Some my mate did you could not tell it apart from stolichnaya

Yes, the chemical analysis of the bootleg stuff was scary.

Foreshots and feints. Too much methanol in the start of distillation (foreshots) and too many impurities in the feints (end)
