Velcro is fine, although you'll get more wind resistance on the top (you've probably already mounted it). For me, this is at the moment the most flexible action cam for riding. More interesting for me is exploring mounting positions on the bike itself.

Yeah, I think I'll need to experiment after I've made a few helmet cam films. How have you mounted it to additional points? You get that handle bar mount with it, but that doesn't look like it'd be good for anything on the bike. Have you made your own mounts or are there some others you'd recommend?

One's on the left fairing above indicator, giving a forward/side view which if angled slightly down catches some of the wheel and road. Superb. The other is fixed to the tail, used when riding with other bikes or if I face it forward at an angle to catch cars that I leave in my dust ![]() My screen is too curved to safely mount the camera but will be trying something to get a forward angle or reverse POV shot (or I'll buy 'a' sunction mount - because of the Drift's common thread size, there's a variety of non Drift suction cup mounts to choose from). Lower fairing mount is next, but tbh there are so many positions I haven't tried yet with the existing mounts that my real problem is affording the petrol to get out and ride as much as I want ![]() Also, I've found I have a lot of footage to edit as my enthusiasm gets the better of me. Yesterday I came across this little piece of software - http://www.highlighthunter.com/ - which is free and promises to make highlight editing a breeze. Not tried it yet but will post my findings when I do. Here's a youtube video from a fellow rider on how it works -

I didn't think of cutting up/modifying the goggle mount. Good shout there. I mounted the helmet mount with the 3M pad, so I still have the velcro pad and the goggle mount, so I might go for a rear mount position and try that out. I can't get over the paranoia of the camera falling off though. Using a suction cup mount on the tank, as I've seen people use, would really freak me out, but a velcroed on goggle mount on the rear somewhere would be fine. Some sort of super low position would be sweet too, like 1 foot from the road maybe for those high speed shots.
Video editing software is my next hurdle though. I've been editing random vids for years in a neolithic copy of Adobe Premiere and I need to get something new now. What are you using dude apart from that highlight hunter?

IMO mounting the adhesive pad properly is key. I've 'tested' the velcro and I'm happy with it on the helmet. First time I used the tail mount position I was constantly checking to make sure the thing hadn't fallen off.
I've seen on Youtube that some take extra precautions (i.e. a wire attached to the camera and a secure point on the bike) but I'm a hop on/hop off guy so can't be bothered with all the faffing. The velcro and adhesive seem to work for me. Never really edited anything before this so I used Youtube editor to begin with. I now use a video converter to change the files from MOV to something compatible with Windows Movie Maker and use this for editing. I'm sure there are better editors out there but I haven't come across any free ones. WMM seems to work fine. The longest part of the process is to convert and upload the finished files to youtube. |

Think Seggon's mounted his camera on his lower fairing or crash bobbin on the lower fairing.
Gives a good perspective of the speed, road ahead, and lean angle. plus it picks up the exhaust sound
