If you like.

It might make explaining harder though.

I got told to get off the bike before I could fill up last week. They said it was for health and safety reasons in case the bike suddenly set on fire. Presumably they thought I would just sit there like Joan of Arc with the flames seared my flesh, my left boot fumbling for the sidestand.

Ironically it made the whole thing much more dangerous as I fuelled while balancing the bike in the centre so I could fill it up properly - it could easily have fallen away from me and chucked petrol all over the forecourt!

Didn't take it out on the kids working there though - they're only wage slaves doing what they're told, like most of us.

As far as prepay is concerned I don't like it, well, actually I don't like the excuses they give for it. In Europe you can ask to have say 5 Euros put in, then fill it, and thats that, its not a problem over there.

I've been asked a few times, I just go somewhere else.

I appreciate that the numpty sitting at the till isn't the one making these requirements, so usually I don't get bothered by it, but on a couple of occasions when the request has been made without a suitable level of manners having been applied, I take the nozzle out and put it on the floor - they inconvenience me, they get some back.

Extremely common practice that you have to hand in your fuel card/credit card with commercial vehicles before they will turn the pump on.Lets face it 500lts of fuel comes to a few bob in todays world.
With regard to the bike I have been asked and rode off to another garage.I have also been asked to remove my helmet and it really annoys them if you just wheel it over to the card pump and keep your helmet on or take it off but have a balaclava on under your lid.The other thing I do if asked to remove my helmet is put it back on before I go to the cash desk and pay With most garages having number recognition I can't understand the logic behind it. I don't let it upset me,treat it more as a game and see how awkward I can be, after all they still have to take your money

One of the bp's near me demanded that I paid upfront for my petrol because pump 1 was really close to the road and I might of run off. I pushed the bike round to pump 2

it's because people have had to turn to stealing because the scumbag government rape us in every way for tax, there's naff all work out there and people need to live, this will only get worse me thinks

Ive had this, and guessed the amount and the amount to fill up was actually under, so had to go back after filling up and get a refund. Pointless for everyone.

so put it another way if that is the case can I prepay for fuel today and collect it at a later date.. like buying a futures contract

I doubt the forecourts are going to like my idea imagine a prepay fuel card..whoo hoo backdated from 1991

Because they have had theft problems my local Sainsburys closes the two pumps nearest the exit when it gets dark. You can imagine the queues that causes on winter Fridays when it gets dark around 4pm.

So the filling station operator is effectively saying I don't trust you not to ride off without paying. Well that is their prerogative.

Just as it is yours to say feck you and take your custom elsewhere.

I would however ride past every pump and take the nozzles out on my way out.

Strange I have never been asked to remove my helmet, never been asked to pre pay. I guess all this aggravation is a southern thing.

The only issue I have ever had was a small filling station in the middle of nowhere (cumbria) that refused to accept a debit card for transactions under £20. A bit difficult to put that amount of fuel in a bike. He expected a group of us to fill up from a single pump/transaction and pay. Then sort out payment between ourselves.
