I know when I'm giving it too much welly and this was nowhere near close - I was doing it one handed while holding a spanner on the other side, laying crooked on the floor. I couldnt strip it like that if I tried (I'm weak)

the bush that goes between the 'prongs' should come in contact with with the insides of the prongs and be snug. did you put the nut on with your fingers or a socket?

are you sure that you put the bush back in?
have you still got the old nut and/bolt? when you ordered the shock from nitron did you give them your weight in KG, LB, ST? there should not be a gap between the fork on the bottom of the shock and the bush. the bush should be a sliding fit in between the fork. if there is a gap them that's what the washers are for but it would have to be one hell of a gap to get 2 of those washers in. Hong.. your a plonker ![]() |

Well there are defo no leftover bits!
The knuckle bit had needle bearings which I greased up. Next goes the steel sleeve thingy (the bush?) which the bolt goes through. Nothing else to it is there? Still got the old bolt, no nut as the old shock is threaded one side. And yep, all details given to Steve Jordan and I trust they ordered it all correctly. Fuuuuuck What do I do ;( |

new nut and bolt.
the shock should move when you sit on the bike by a good 5-10mm if it don't then the spring is wrong or preload is wound up to much. phone Jordan's and ask what poundage spring was put on. its not common to have shocks made for someone your weight and i suspect that they have taken the lb weight and mistaken it for kg. wouldn't be the first time they have got it wrong ![]() ![]() think this is where nitron let themselves down as they do not supply a manual or a note stating what lb spring has been used. ooorrr they have sent completely wrong shock ![]() if it's a mm gap then the fork should compress in to take up the play but i seem to recall mine was perfect. |

Well the top bit was micrometer perfect - but yeah the bottom seems definately out.
I'll ring Sarah on Monday I guess. Fack sake ![]() Problem is the only time I can get to the bike is basically when everyone else is off work. Maybe tomorrow if its sunny I can grab the last rays to get it back out... Last edited by hongman; 10-08-12 at 08:55 PM. |

Shock was ordered for Hongs flyweight..when ordering off Nitron you dont specify a spring rate, you just need to give them the riders weight and in this case I double specified how light (jealous) mr hong is and that its for road use, they havent got one wrong yet and in fact as a supplier are one of the most reliable.
Nitron use only lb in spring rate so wouldnt confuse it with kg or nm measurements, in fact they are so different i doubt anyone would..a .8kg spring would be a 450lb spring!!!..they arent going to mix them up and send a 450kg spring..id hope LOL Anyways, PM'd you re the bolt will call you Monday. Can you email me the picture too as it hasnt come out in the post you posted. Last edited by SV650Racer; 11-08-12 at 08:52 AM. |

Another thing to try and get the nut off: see if you can wedge a fattish flathead screwdriver between the bolt head and the washer and angle it so that you're putting pressure on the bolt head as if you're trying to pry it out, all whilst undoing the nut. It's got to be worth a go. The nut may have gone on at a slight angle or you could have had a bit of dirt in it. When I'm fitting nuts and bolts I try and screw them together first to to see if all's good. It's also good practise to never put either down on the floor whilst you're working or to put them on something clean, especially if they've got copper slip on or are greased for some reason as they'll pick up grit and dirt. (Hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs). Good luck.

Well just had another bash and nada. Cant get it out. Smashed it with driver and hammer, also tried wedging flathead in as Monkey suggested. Just not happening.
Worse thing is I took it for a spin round the block and where it isnt tight enough, every time I hit a bump I get a nice loud metal on metal clang/ching sound. Its fouling the dogbone as well so I cant even ride it to a flippin shop. Going to get a replacement nut and bolt, then try drilling it out I guess. |
