It was all a scam. When he said he'd gone on a 'bush craft survival weekend' he actually spent a few hours at this place.

I'd say a comma as I wouldn't ever use "lets face it" as a standalone sentence but I'd never criticise someone for opting for the semi colon.

Let's face it has all the components required for a standalone sentence. You could tell me about a huge spider that lives in your knicker draw. We could um and ahhh about it until finally I pluck up the man courage and say "Let's face it!" (i.e. showdown!)

It's exactly the same thing. It just sounds like it depends on the following statement of gingerness because culturally we use it frequently in that format. It's an expression. Let's face it ... blah blah. But when you remove that expectation, it's a valid sentence and can stand in it's own right.

However, you have no idea what you're facing, so it implies something has either come before or after. If the item that defines what you're facing comes afterwards, then I believe it's a colon.

Here are a few more of my thoughts on the correct punctuation:

Let's face it: I can't find my underpants.
Let's face facts: eating a live chicken will be difficult.
The fact is my underwear has vanished.
Eating a live chicken would upset the RSPCA. You'll find that's factual.
Chicken should be eaten dead; that's a fact.

We need a university level English teacher.

Semi colon or nothing, both work.

Hate to break it to you but my hair is dark red naturally. I tend to darken it towards the end of summer after the sun has lightened it.

As I said fallout, I'D never use it as a standalone sentence.

Let's face it, is not something I'd personally say so I'd use a comma but I'd see a semi colon as acceptable if others were using it.
