they aren't all that expensive as long as they aren't missing many characters. i think mine (which i got for my 18 birthday) was only about £100-150 and that was about 8 years ago.

This was only £200, which is why I am a bit miffed at having to spend £105 to get it on my car

Please don't forget you may have a charge by your insurance for altering your documents.Any roadtax is changed free providing the donor and recipient vehicles are taxed and they normally just stamp any MOT Certs with the new number.Once the paperwork is done it takes about 5-10 days before you can change the plates.I go to the local office and change numbers about between vehicles all the time. We have 5 fleet vehicles with personalised numbers and my own one has been changed between vehicles about 10 times

I've only experienced charges once when I changed the reg plate twice in a year.
£50 sounds steep mind.

However that's insurance companies for you. Would have taken about 10 clicks of the keyboard to change.

If you have the retention certificate it means the transfer fee (£80) is already paid. So, you only need to fill in your details and pay to have your name added as a nominee. Then you can use it.

"Then you use it" NO------- ONLYafter it has been sent back to you and you have changed your insurance, normally 5-10 working days.Once you have recieved all the paperwork back you may have to produce it to get the new numberplates made up,depending on how strict your numberplate supplier is.
