Not sure what to do... considering buying it back and fixing it to either sell it, ride it or just sell it for spares. Thoughts?

Yeah it's usually a good deal to buy it back

All is not lost mate ask about a buy back thing not sure how it works or if you can on a cat d but worth asking.

When my bike was declared cat c write off by my insurance company they sent out an "engineer" to value it.
He whipped out a laptop and looked at bikes of similar age and mileage to mine to work out pre accident value. Lucky for me he used bike trader for this and bike trader is for some reason very over priced on average. He also had a small book which had rough second hand prices of all models of bikes dependant on condition.

He then looked at all the damage and priced the bike in its post accident state according to some guidlines on a form and gave me the buy it back price there and then.

I've been given a reasonable offer and the salvage price isn't too bad either. I've not yet investigated the full extent of the damage myself (left it alone whilst my insurer sorted everything out).

Its not all that damaged, given that the impact speed was so low. although I'll need to get the forks double checked.

Pretty similar to what happened to me - buy it back, and it's a good excuse to upgrade to GSXR forks if it's something you were considering anyway
