Just thinking would an oring do the job for this instead of a metal spacer?

Just reading on the us site there was talk of using orings. It looks like they could do the same job of holding the emulator central. They wouldn't actually see any load as enough of the emulator would be sitting on the rod.

I suppose you could find an O-ring to fit the exact requirements of the damper but I imagine that's the hard bit. I'm also no mechanic but I thought O rings are most effective when they are deformed to create a seal (between valve and rod) so some sort of pressure is needed. Maybe it could work but the Oring would need to, not just sit, but fit well between the two channels is what I'm thinking.

Yeah I guess it wouldn't be ideal but may still work as it looks like the emulator doesn't need to be sealed around its circumference, as long as it sits against the top of the damper rid. The racetech diagrams show some clearance so I don't think it needs particularly tight tolerances.

F'ck it. Go for it mate. Who ever thought of putting emulators in Sv's in the first place? You know, if I had a penny for every time some mechanic said "I never heard of anyone putting a ZX shock in an SV". Yet you have a whole community across two continents who've worked it out for themselves! So if it can be done, we'll surely find a way

not as easy and straight forward as people think to fit the spacers as there is a variation in dampers from different years so as YC says better popping them in the post to someone who can make them fit properly.

Apart from YC's expertise, I don't see why its difficult. The measurements above are for the pointy. If someone isn't sure, they could always measure it when they take the rod out. That is what someone else has done to get the measurements above.
This isn't anything on YC's service, as I would have sent mine to him but wanted to do it myself and (maybe luckily) it seems to have worked. Last edited by Runako; 23-03-13 at 02:23 PM. |

I got some spacers made up by the lathe guy at my brothers garage. I did ask for a press fit but they were more drop in fit with half mm clearance. It's all good and they work fine.
Fwiw, I consider £40 for the work needed a fair price. Had I not been able to get it done locally yc wold have had my dampers. |

i was going to make up kits but i found a large variation in the pointy rods of different years. this is why you are better getting someone to do it. the spacers need to be an interference fit on the rod and just enough for the emulator to drop in without trouble. you also have to remember that you need to cut down the spacer at the top of the spring.
