Aaaand, the automated response:

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your e mail in connection with the Trunk Roads Speed Limit Review.

Your email has been received and a detailed response will be issued within 20 working days from the date of this e mail.

In some areas, where an increase has been recommended, we are already working with communities and the police to positively influence driver speeds towards compliance with the current limit. In such cases we are allowing a period of time to assess effectiveness. Sections of proposed speed limit increases may also benefit from these measures and as such, the proposed speed limit increases will not be promoted at this time.

This is an automated response please do not respond to this email.

Regards

Transport Scotland

notice how they are emphasising the 'increased' speeds and nothing about the lowering of speeds.

no you fecking morons we want to know WHY you have decided to reduce speeds on country roads that have no built up areas.

pure fuuuking madness.

This organization gives me the impression that they have a chosen not to treat motorcyclists as legitimate road users in their plans.
This isn't the first time I've had reason to think that.
I also think they have a hidden objective, to reduce speed limits so they can reduce maintenance.

you probably wouldn't be wrong

there's a dual carriageway in Hertfordshire that drops to a 40mph limit for no apparent reason whatsoever, then for no apparent reason the limit goes back to NSL

the reason is it crosses a motorway on a bridge

due to fatigue and age the bridge is not as strong as it once was so trucks going over it at 56mph make it wobble, rather than spend money reinforcing the bridge, they've just put up speed limit signs

of course most of the traffic including the trucks just ignore the limit and carry on at 70mph and 56mph respectively because it's such a short stretch, so it's achieved nothing (other than generate a few speeding fines), but the authorities can drive a truck over it at 40mph and it doesn't wobble so they can say they've made it safe
