I do like stories like this. Does restore faith in humanity.

I got a screw through my tyre on the way home once, pulled into the petrol station to see what i could do, and a chap on a Polish GS pulled in behind me. Before I knew it, he'd pulled out his puncture repair kit saying he'd seen me basically limp into the garage thought he'd see if he could help, he fixed the puncture in no time and wouldn't take anything except profuse thanks in return with the phrase "Pass it on". It was a retched evening too. Rain coming in sideways.

"Pass it on"
"Random act of kindness"

Phrases we could all do to endorse from time to time to make this ****hole a better place to live.
Great to see bikers pull over to offer a hand, I do make a point of doing the same thing. 9 times out of 10 they've got it covered anyway but one 2 occasions I've been welcomed with open arms, 1 had a dead phone battery, the other had lost his rear caliper mounting nut from a Daytona so was very greatful for my cableties.

Glad you got it home ok Si, always winds me up that they send a van to judge it needs recovering what a waste of time/resource.

Some years ago whilst walking the lazy mutt I saw a biker (of sorts, 125 pile of cr@p) at the side of the road and asked if he was OK.

Well what a surprise, it was the fighting dwarf, last time I had seen him was being escorted out of a kebab house by the cops in Blackpool 20 odd years ago on my mates stag night.

Turns out his chain had come off the front sprocket. So pushed it the 200 yards to my house, removed cover refitted chain and gave him a lesson in adjusting the tension whilst he had a brew. And then sent him his way.

As the man says pass it on, you never know when you might need a hand yourself.

Awesome story, though are you sure it was Joe Marcon and not just a hallucination caused by the length of time you were waiting at the roadside?!

I made the same mistake as Tim's pal above and let the chain get too slack on my 125. A passing engineer on a ZZR1400 went home, got his socket set and came back and fixed it for me. Tried to give him money/beer and he just said to do the same the next time I saw a biker broken down.

After deperate attempts to do so for a couple of years (almost did a stoppie once after spotting someone sat beside his bike in a layby, turned out he'd pulled over for a rest!) finally managed to pay it forward this year when a fella came off his bike in front of me.

That made I laugh. Glad to know others actually look out for people to help too.

p.s. hope the fella was ok.

He was - broken collarbone and concussion but could be worse. And I got to admire his Suzuki Intruder while it was sat in my yard for a few days.

My mate actually tried complaining to them about this.

The phone call had such phrases as "totally f***ed... send a recovery not a repairer... con rod sticking out of the side of the motor" etc.

Stupid procedures!

AA are actually pretty good about this. In London certainly they have bike specific call out guys who can attempt the repair then do the recovery if necessary. They can just stick the bike in the back of the van.

I had one a few years back that went along the lines of:
"Is it repairable at the roadside?"
Oh absolutely, no bother. Will the van have a rider's footpeg hanger for a 1999-2002 sv650s in it?
"Uh I don't think so"
Ah then no, you'll need to send a recovery truck or a one legged recovery rider that likes to do long trips in 2nd gear.
"Ok, I'll send a recovery truck"
Ta!
