Those look like standard forks though (can't tell with the springs). The main problem is bottoming out and twitchiness, both of which are improved with better fork internals or a GSXR front end with better damping, stiffer springs and larger front wheel. So its not a simple case of don't. Its a lot of little things to consider. But yes, proceed with caution.

Default fork height

Agree to a point but bigger, sportier bikes with a more unstable rake setup (head down, ar$e up) have all the shiny bits you speak of and still mostly come with factory steering dampers....maybe for good reason?
I'm no expert though

Not with an SV. The GSXR motors are heavier and with the added power obviously need to balance all that weight at the front so the steering damper is required. The SV engine is significantly lighter and less powerful so no steering damper needed. And the rake with the GSXR front end with taller front trye is almost the same as stock. So no big issues there. Its usually when you start adding a rear shock with different height to the mix which needs to be factored in.

Depending on the type of shock (GSXR or ZX) it will either raise or lower the rear and alter geometry. So play with the rear I say before dropping the forks.

Thanks everyone for your input. The Maxton Shock is height adjustable ( although access to the adjusting nut is " difficult ".....With regard steering damping I have a GPR damper fitted set to 5 on track ( 1-8 available ) . From the advice given I will adjust at the rear ........when I figure out how to gain spanner access. Thanks again. I'm doing a double header trackdays at Anglesey next weekend so will have a play then. Regards Richard.
