I to use that non slip rubber matting stuff. It sometimes leaves abit of a mark where its kind of stuck to the paint, but that can be wiped off and it never scratches.
I cut it to size so it can go under the pillion seat (a hole for the latch) then it cant slide off and hangs down over the side panels.
